Restorative approaches in neighbourhoods
Giving victims and communities a better service

Proposals for Training in Restorative Approaches

Our pioneering work in delivering Restorative Justice in the community has been recognised and significantly boosted by the Government, as part of a recent significant announcement from Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry of Justice, Crispin Blunt MP*.

Under the announcement Restorative Solutions is working with the Government to undertake programmes of work to train staff and volunteers in delivering restorative justice in the community and to provide models for local delivery.

In his announcement to Local Criminal Justice Boards, Community Safety Partnerships, National Offender Management Service Senior Managers, Youth Offending Teams and local authorities, Mr Blunt said he was convinced that, “Restorative justice is most effective when it is locally driven and therefore responsive to tackling crime and disorder in the local area”.

Restorative Solutions are offering restorative justice training and learning support packages to local areas at no cost.

The training offer is funded by a grant from the Underwood Trust which has been supporting Restorative Solutions for the last six years.

The Neighbourhood Restorative Justice Programme is also offered by Restorative Solutions with the aim of helping areas to start to build capacity to deliver restorative justice - working at any stage in the system where need may apply - in priority neighbourhood areas to deal with crime, anti-social behaviour and disorder, providing better outcomes to victims.

This may also be of benefit to areas wishing to develop the Neighbourhood Resolution Panel approach the Government is testing over the coming months.

The package includes awareness briefing; training in informal RJ approaches for dealing with minor, lower-level incidents; more intensive training for individuals to become RJ facilitators to organise and run formal restorative conferences; a train the trainers course as well as follow up support and advice to enable areas to embed and develop local practices.
