Preventing Children Being Taken into Care through Restorative Approaches
Restorative Solutions CIC has developed Restore:Families, an innovative and dynamic programme of support to help families who are experiencing 'child to parent' violence in the home.
In 2015/16, Restorative Solutions were commissioned by the Cumbria OPCC to develop and test the use of Restorative Approaches with Teenage Domestic Abuse and Violence. Families attend programmes of varying lengths, voluntarily, following referral by statutory services or by self-referral.
The pilot was externally evaluated by the Brathay Trust and has resulted in the development of an additional 8-12 year old male programme which was piloted in 2017, and has now been extended to 2019/2020.
What a young person said about their experience on the programme:
“I enjoy being a proper family and enjoying time as a family. If we hadn't been in Restore:Families I'd probably had nothing to do with my family. If I'd carried on acting how I was acting I'd have ended up in a home.”
