On Tuesday 20th November 2018 a Restorative Justice and Reintegration Event was held at HMP Winchester to mark Restorative Justice Week 2018. Partners from a range of support service including; Restorative Solutions, Society of St James, Mediation Services, Hampshire Fire & Rescue Service, Footprints, Saints Foundation, Care after Combat, Citizens Advice, Catch22 and SSAFA were available to provide advice and information to over one hundred prisoners.
During the lunch period, services had the opportunity to engage with partners as well as prison staff, to provide further information about their services and the availability of Restorative Justice to all victims of crime. The Police & Crime Commissioner for Hampshire attended the event alongside the new Governor of HMP Winchester and the day was also filmed by 72 Films and Roger Graef Productions who are currently filming a documentary series on the Criminal Justice System in Hampshire.
We hope that events like these will encourage more prisoners to engage with the idea of participating in Restorative Justice if the opportunity arises.
